Review of Perahu Kertas – Dee

Perahu Kertas is the latest Dee’s novel. Up till now, maybe we know that the Dee’s writting is about serious stories. If you ever read Supernova series or Filosofi Kopi, you may think so hard to understand what is the meaning of her story. Supernova series are science fiction novels and Filosofi Kopi is a miscellanea of serious short stories. Perahu Kertas is different than the other, the genre is popular book, moreover it’s a teenage love story like a teenlit novel. So, it’s mean the strory is more understandable.

This book tells a story about Kugy and Keenan. Kugy is an unique girl that aspires to be a author of fairy tale. Keenan is a smart boy that loves painting so much, he wants to stand alone by painting. Kugy is Noni’s best friend and Keenan is Eko’s cousin, whereas Eko is Noni’s boyfriend also bestfriend of Kugy. Kugy and Keenan meet in the railway station in Bandung, when Eko, Noni, and Kugy pick up Keenan. They attend in the same university, Keenan in bussiness, and Kugy in letters faculty. From here, they admire each other. Until they know that they are falling in love.

The conflict is both Keenan and Kugy don’t have a bravery to tell about what they feel, besides Kugy is still has a boyfriend. The main conflict is started from the effort of Eko and Noni to make a match beetwen Keenan and Wanda, Noni’s cousin. Keenan is an artist, and Wanda is a curator, so they don’t take a long time to understand each other. Eko and Noni’s effort is almost success, until Keenan wise that Wanda is not the best girl for him. Kugy also has a problem with her boyfriend, till they make a decision to end their relationship. The friendship between Kugy and Noni ended because of a misunderstanding. Then, Kugy falls to a new activity to forget her feeling, and Keenan exiles him self to Ubud, Bali to take a serious in painting. The ending of this story is a happy ending. Finally, Kugy and Keenan can life together.

Perahu Kertas’s story is a love story like other popular books. But, It is the Dee’s writting. I felt like I fell down in her imagination, when I read this book. She can make an amazing diction and I really enjoyed her story in Perahu Kertas. So, that’s the reason I recommend you to read this book.
